Natalie Kiryk ~ New Technology

Social media is the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into interactive dialogue.

Years to Reach 50 millions Users: Radio (38 Years), TV (13 Years), Internet (4 Years), iPod (3 Years)…Facebook added 100 million users in less than 9 months…iPhone applications hit 1 billion in 9 months.

For the very isolated countries such as many in the Middle East, media is now pouring out true stories to the world about what really happens inside their borders. Hopefully the new technology we all love to use so freely here in the western countries can play a part in the downfall of dictatorships in these countries and give the people some freedom.

Twenty-four of the 25 largest newspapers are experiencing record declines in circulation because we no longer search for the news, the news finds us.

35% of book sales on Amazon are for the Kindle when available

Will the iPad take over our weekly/monthly fix with newspapers, Hollywood magazines, fashion mags etc. Do you want to read a novel on the iPad or do you prefer a good old paperback book? I still think it is a special feeling to pick up a book and take it to the beach or a cafe. It doesn't matter if you drop it, get a little sand or water on it, and you don't have to charge it.

Businesses use various social networks to keep their customers happy and give excellent customer service. Some examples of social networks that companies are often using are Facebook, various blogs, Twitter, podcasts, and LinkedIn. Whereas they all have their own positives and negatives, as a whole the options are limitless.

Over 50% of the world’s population is under 30-years-old and 96% of them have joined a social network.

Social networking can also have negative effects on people’s health. The greatest concerns are young people, particularily teenagers, and the problems with bullying and depression. Adults need to be aware of certain signs in the young ones and also of their own. If their behavior becomes addictive their is a problem. So when social networking, like most things, moderation offers the healthiest alternatives.
